  • Two-day event includes two different and challenging 5000- meter head race courses on Melton Lake.
  • Coaches and Coxswains Zoom Meeting is Wed, 10/9/24 at 8pm.
  • Thursday Oct 11th practice - This is the first regatta for many RGA athletes, expect an extended practice for derigging and loading.
  • Friday Oct 12th Travel to Oak Ridge - Boat trailer ETA is by 2pm. Notify your coach by end of practice Wed 10/10 with your ETA Fri 10/12 to the venue. It is recommended to arrive early enough to rig and practice on Friday when practice course is open.
  • Tip - some opt for GA Peach Pass to reduce travel times. Friday traffic in that direction may become heavy.

Leading Up To Race Day

  • Bank sleep! Try to get 8-10 hours of quality sleep/night the week before the regatta
  • Eat like an athlete every day: 6 balanced meals/day - healthy whole foods with lots of fruits and veggies. Don’t miss meals and maintain your hydration with regular water intake.
  • Be rested and on time for all practices.
  • Check weather frequently leading up to event and pack accordingly.
  • Prevent sun and wind burns by packing and wearing sunscreen. Also consider a hat and sunglasses, and sunglasses strap/leash. Extra set of dry clothes (especially socks – 1 pair per race!)

Race Day

  • Maintain your hydration!
  • Keep off your feet and stay out of the sun – on hot days keep cool by finding an area with dense shade and a breeze, especially 2 hrs before your event.
  • Avoid eating a heavy meal within 3 hours of your race.
  • Assemble with your crew and coach before your race time as set by coach.
  • Be available to rig / de-rig and move boats as required.
  • Support fellow team members in their races and offer your assistance in getting them on/off the water (carrying oars, shoes, etc.).
  • Keep up with tools and belongings at all times.
  • Keep team areas clean.
  • Use your time wisely!
  • Take advantage of downtime between racing and rigging. This is a great opportunity for rest or homework.
  • Take precautions throughout the day protecting yourself from sun/windburn.
Notice to coaches and athletes - Impacts from Helene continue at both Norris and Melton Lake Dam. TVA projects that on both days, average flow on Melton Hill Lake will be about 4,500 cubic feet/second. This is the equivalent of (average) 0.7 mph for Melton Hill Lake's cross-section. For athletes, this means that Saturday's row to the start will be impacted (slower), and downstream racing will be faster. On Sunday, similar flow will allow for a faster row to start, but slower race times upstream. This flow rate is safe for all athletes, but will impact race times.

US Rowing Age Classifications Eligibility Row Georgia and US Rowing are committed to fair play. USR provides classification regulations. A rower shall not compete in an age category indicated race for which he/she is not eligible. All programs must adhere to all rules. A rower can race up, but cannot race down. A rower is: U17 until 12/31 of the year in which they reach the age of 16, U19 until 12/31 of the year in which they reach the age of 18, U21 until 12/31 of the year in which they reach the age of 20, and so on.
